    Velodyne SMS-1 Subwoofer Equalizer

I am thinking about using this with my 750 sub.

    Anybody using this Sub EQ?

    Thanks...

    Hello,

I'm using an SMS-1 on a pair of ASW-855 but I'm selling it for 600 euro, only two months old, because I bought a Mcintosh MX-135 and this pre can take care of all the settings I need.

So how does the SMS-1 stack up to the Behringer offerings? FBD DSP1124P or DEQ2496??

Infinitely easier to use for a subwoofer. You need a decent external measurement program/PC fo the Behringers. There's a full explanation about that aspect in an AVSforum thread.

How good is the DEQ2496 for frequency of main speakers, i.e. 100Hz - 20KHz? I've always understood you could get away with subfrequencies, but higher range frequencies it can be a bad thing.

                  1. I have heard differing opinions about using the DEQ2496 above the bass but I have not tried it.
                  2. I see no reason to do room/speaker EQ above 200Hz. That's what speaker selection, speaker placement and room treatment are better for. It's only below 200Hz where the room treatments become voluminous that EQ can be useful.
